Billion Dollar Brands Club

CURRENT STATE
Today's "business as usual" exceeds planetary boundaries and creates localized challenges, such as water stress and air quality hazards. A population 10 times the size of the United States will have entered the middle class between 2009 and 2030. That massive economic development could mean a far greater quality of life for most of the people on the planet. But not if companies meet the increasing demand of a rising middle class with today's products, services, and business models.

A handful of companies have recognized this challenge, including Proctor & Gamble, which has prioritized sustainable consumption as a key challenge for the future of their business.

This and other companies are at the beginning of this transformation and will need guidance for how to "do the math" for future growth goals or set targets for sustainable consumption. They will also need recommendations for strategic partners who will help them achieve those goals.

GOAL STATE
We want to see 3-6 leadership companies step up to form a "Billion Dollar Brands" club with common objectives and targets for sustainable consumption. Ultimately, we aim to leverage their leadership to prompt dozens more to follow. To make this happen, the leadership companies will need specific sustainable consumption benchmarks and goals.

DELIVERABLES
A presentation -- delivered directly to senior executives at a Company and to the Organization's senior leadership (and potentially executives from 1-2 other major companies) -- that includes:

  • Recommended definitions and benchmarks for what "sustainable consumption" would mean for a consumer brand.

  • Suggested sustainable consumption goals and Key Performance Indicators for a Company's billion- dollar consumer brands.

  • List of partners that can help the Company achieve its sustainable consumption ambitions.

  • Strategy for the Company, the Organization, and other major companies to form a "Billion Dollar Brands" club that
    • establishes common goals and metrics for sustainable consumption.
